Folk Taster Day

An introduction to folk instruments, music and dance from England and beyond. 

Are you thinking about learning something new or want to refresh your skills after many years? Our friendly folk artist-tutors will lead you through an accessible and inspiring day of activities.

Choose up to four workshops across the day. On offer are 75 minute workshops in morning and afternoon sessions.

Morning sessions

  • Guitar – David Delarre
  • Accordion - Trish Keenan
  • Fiddle – Beth Gifford
  • Song – Maz O’Connor

Afternoon sessions

  • Folk dance - Mike Ruff
  • Melodeon – Ben Moss
  • Banjo – Ed Hicks
  • Mixed Instrument Ceilidh Band – Laurel Swift

The day ends with a free ceilidh, open for everyone who has attended, plus one friend or partner. Led by our tutors and Saturday Folk Music Workshop Ceilidh Band, so bring comfortable dancing shoes!

For anyone over the age of 12 (those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult).

No previous experience of music or folk dance required!

Instruments will be available to borrow on the day free of charge, be sure to request them during the online booking process.
