Singing Assemblies

A six-week whole-school singing project

Our six-week Singing Assemblies project supports both pupils and staff to develop confident, joyful singing across the school. Alongside high-quality pupil sessions, the project upskills teachers, builds confidence, and equips staff with the tools to independently lead singing assemblies beyond the programme.

What pupils will learn

Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1, Inspiring Music singing tutors deliver a series of engaging, high-quality singing assemblies designed to build early musical confidence and enjoyment.

Children will:

  • sing together confidently in unison

  • develop an understanding of pitch, phrasing, and emotional expression

  • explore dynamics and tempo, learning to sing louder and softer with control and intention

  • begin singing in rounds, supporting early harmonisation skills

  • build enthusiasm for music through active participation and shared performance

Sessions are inclusive, energetic, and designed to foster a positive relationship with singing from an early age.

Key Stage 2

In Key Stage 2, singing assemblies are delivered separately for Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 to ensure a differentiated and age-appropriate approach.

Children will:

  • expand their vocal range and accuracy through a varied and appropriate repertoire

  • develop improved pitch control and expressive phrasing

  • refine breath control and tackle more complex rhythms, including syncopation

  • deepen their understanding of dynamics and tempo changes to perform with musicality

  • sing in rounds, partner songs, and two-part harmonies to strengthen ensemble skills

  • explore music from a range of cultures, including singing in different languages

This progression supports confident group singing while broadening musical understanding and cultural awareness.

CPD support for staff

Optional CPD can be added to further support your school’s teaching staff, helping to develop confidence, skills, and subject knowledge so singing assemblies can be led independently in the future.

  • CPD sessions last 20 minutes each week

  • sessions can focus on the same small group of staff or rotate across 2–3 teachers per week

  • content is tailored to your school’s needs

Before the project begins, an initial virtual meeting will be arranged to understand your staff’s CPD requirements. One of our vocal specialists will contact you to schedule this meeting.

What Inspiring Music provides

  • a specialist singing tutor

  • high-quality singing resources based on Sing Up or Sparkyard

  • CPD support for teachers (if the CPD option is selected)

What schools provide

  • one member of staff per class (up to 30 pupils)

  • an appropriate space suitable for the number of pupils

  • WiFi access and basic IT support where required

  • engaged staff and positive behaviour support

  • a whiteboard and speakers

  • a suitable breakout space to host CPD immediately after singing assemblies

Important information to consider

  • Resources
Tutors use Sing Up or Sparkyard. Schools with an existing licence pay delivery costs only. Schools without a licence will need to purchase one at a subsidised rate. Licences cover the full academic year, supporting singing development beyond the six-week project.

  • Delivery-only option
Tutor-led sessions without CPD are available at full cost recovery. A Sing Up or Sparkyard licence is still required, either existing or purchased at the subsidised rate.

  • Session length and timing
All sessions are 20 minutes long for classes or Key Stage groups. Transition time is included within the 20 minutes, so careful planning is required to ensure groups are seated and ready to begin promptly.

  • CPD sessions
When CPD is included, a dedicated 20-minute session follows singing assemblies for skill development and discussion with staff.

  • Scheduling
Projects must be purchased as a package to align with tutor schedules. Session timings must run consecutively. We will do our best to accommodate school timetables.
