Teach Together: Primary Music Curriculum (KS1 and KS2)

Project description

Designed to be flexible to suit individual school needs, Teach Together Primary develops teaching staff confidence to deliver engaging, inspiring and high-quality music lessons aligned with the National Curriculum and National Plan for Music Education. The project simultaneously delivers curriculum music to pupils while acting as tailored CPD for classroom teachers.

How it works

Each week, an Inspiring Music KS1 or KS2 Music Curriculum Specialist teaches a class (maximum 33 pupils) for 45 minutes alongside the classroom teacher or music co-ordinator/lead. Weekly reflection and tailored support is provided through a 15-minute session before or after teaching, totalling 60 minutes engagement per week.

Tailored support for teachers

Support is adapted to each teacher’s confidence, experience, knowledge and skills. The programme identifies individual needs and works collaboratively so teachers can confidently enjoy and deliver music with their class.

The first session is a 60-minute reflection and planning session, allowing the specialist and teacher to:

  • discuss starting points

  • identify strengths and areas for development

  • agree a tailored approach

  • begin lesson planning or medium-term planning

Tailoring support for your school

Teach Together Primary works alongside:

  • nationally recognised music resources (e.g. Charanga or Sing Up), or

  • school-developed planning that meets National Curriculum requirements

Schools can choose to:

  • develop one teacher across the full year

  • develop different teachers each term

  • develop one or more teachers within a single term

The programme is customised based on:

  • number of terms

  • number of teachers involved

  • teacher confidence levels

Inspiring Music will provide

  • A KS1 or KS2 Music Curriculum Specialist for 11 weeks per term, including:

    • 1 planning session with the classroom teacher

    • 10 teaching sessions

Schools will provide

  • the class teacher for 60 minutes per week (self-motivated participation required)

  • school staff (e.g. TA) to cover:

    • The class for the 15-minute weekly reflection meeting

    • The class for the 60-minute planning session in week one

  • a suitable teaching space (classroom or hall)

  • an interactive whiteboard and speaker system

  • class music instruments (e.g. claves, chime bars, maracas, triangle, glockenspiels)

Key Stages 2 and 3

Turntablism (DJ-ing) – Self-Delivery

Engage, Inspire, and Empower Your Students

The Turntablism self-delivery project supports Year 5 to Year 9 students to explore DJ-ing and contemporary music-making through a fully planned and tailored 10-week scheme of work for each year group. This can support schools in creating a new progression pathway towards GCSE Music.

This innovative Key Stage 3 programme combines creativity and technology, offering opportunities to both perform and compose, with built-in teacher assessment opportunities. Pupils gain hands-on experience using professional DJ equipment.

Why choose this project?

Exceptional value for schools
The programme can be delivered to hundreds of pupils across multiple year groups (for example, the whole of Key Stage 3 and into GCSE). If a school teaches 325 pupils, the cost works out at less than £2 per pupil.

Long-term legacy
By training teachers, this project creates a sustainable delivery model. Schools retain the skills and resources needed to deliver DJ-ing lessons year after year.

High-value equipment and resources
Schools access a full class set of turntables valued at over £10,000, alongside a fully developed 10-week scheme of work, online tutorials and planning resources.

Enhancing wellbeing and creativity
Music provides a creative outlet that builds confidence, supports wellbeing and helps pupils develop positive relationships.

Opportunities for co-curricular and enrichment activities
The equipment can also be used for after-school clubs and enrichment activities, supporting the development of music technology skills and strengthening the wider music offer.

What’s included

  • Hire of DJ equipment sufficient for a full class of up to 33 pupils, with the same set available for use across additional classes and year groups

  • Comprehensive resources, including:

    • fully planned, video-based online pupil tutorials

    • planning documentation

    • scratch notation guides

Each unit of work is tailored to different experience levels and age groups, with scaffolded progression. Schools can programme the project annually to build skills towards GCSE level.

Professional CPD training

One full day of CPD, delivered by Inspiring Music tutors, covering:

  • scratch DJ techniques

  • confident use of the equipment

  • effective use of the provided resources

  • classroom management for technology-based lessons

  • strategies for embedding DJ-ing into the music curriculum and co-curricular provision

  • health and safety when using the equipment (batteries)

Strategic vision behind this approach

This is a school-led delivery model designed to:

  • build teacher confidence and capacity

  • reduce reliance on external tutors, making it environmentally sustainable

  • create a continuation pathway for pupils beyond the initial term

  • support expansion into after-school clubs, transition projects and cross-curricular activities

  • develop music technology as part of the school’s curriculum offer

Costs, options and booking

Option: Including delivery and collection

  • Total cost: £669.61

  • Booking code: DJ-IMD

  • Notes: Inspiring Music delivers and collects the equipment
