Connolly Hall at Redborne Upper School was transformed into a buzzing live‑music venue on Thursday 12 February as Inspiring Music hosted the annual Beds Band Factory - a showcase celebrating the incredible young musical talent across Central Bedfordshire.
The event brought together student bands from Redborne Upper School, Cedars Upper School, Henlow Academy, Alameda Middle School and Woodland Middle School, each performing high‑energy sets in front of an enthusiastic audience of families, friends and peers. From rock and punk to pop and alternative classics, the performances demonstrated the confidence, creativity and musical skill of young people across the area.
A panel of expert judges provided supportive feedback throughout the evening, while Redborne’s dedicated Tech Crew - students from Years 9 to 13 - ensured the event ran smoothly, managing lighting, sound and staging. Their work highlighted the breadth of career pathways available within the creative industries.
Generous support from partners helped make the celebration even more special. TT Rockstar donated £400 to the winning school’s music department, while Kawai gifted a digital piano as a second prize.
After an evening of exceptional performances, two standout bands were awarded top honours:
Dead Signal (Cedars Upper School) – winners of £400 for their school’s music department
The Husky Tones (Alameda Middle School) – winners of a digital piano from Kawai
Cllr Gareth Mackey, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said:
“Beds Band Factory provides young musicians with a valuable opportunity to perform and collaborate with their peers. The event is a strong example of what high‑quality music education can achieve, helping students build confidence and teamwork. We are grateful to Inspiring Music, school staff, partners and Redborne’s fantastic Tech Crew for making it such a success.”
The excitement continues as Inspiring Music prepares for Beds Band Blast‑Off on Wednesday 4 March - introducing heats for the first time. Three bands will progress to the regional BLMK Battle of the Bands final on Thursday 19 March at The Stables in Milton Keynes.
Beds Band Factory remains a highlight of Central Bedfordshire’s music calendar, celebrating the energy, dedication and creativity of our young performers.
